Project Description

We are a team of 4 students (undergraduate and graduate) at Seattle University, taking the User Experience Design course in Spring 2019. Together we learned how to design a solution and improve it with feedback from users.

Problem being addressed

Seattle University students and residents may need to walk alone at night, including potentially at risk populations such as young women. Information on which streets are well lit, foot traffic, and crime reports are not readily available making travel frightening . Our goal was to ensure everyone could feel safe and secure on their way home. The first thing that we discussed was a navigation application that put a safety before anything else. With our goal established we set out to make Seattle a safer place.

Target users
Our target primary audience includes residents and students in the Seattle U area. The app should help inform these users on how to best be safe in this area. Another target user is Seattle U campus security and the Seattle police. Our application should help them share information and give local residents quicker notifications.

Data Dignity

We wanted to keep the data dignity of our users in mind, which means treating our user’s data with respect. We want to protect user privacy, as they expect that the data they give us is only used to help them with this problem. The ‘data dignity’ in this context means that the required information such as location tracking is done with transparency. This gives users control over their data by understanding what information we are using. We promise our users their data will only be used to improve their user experience and we will do our best to inform them on how we use their data to improve the product.
